About 3 million people in the UK work in health and social care, that is equivalent to 1 in every 10 people. Demand for both health and social care is likely to continue to rise due to the ageing population, so it is sure to continue to play a key role in UK society. The demand for people to fill these vital jobs will continue to increase.
In Alde Valley Academy we provide a fluid and dynamic knowledge rich KS4 option of Health and Social Care curriculum, which gives learners, access and progress to KS5 and beyond. The BTEC Tech Award is an introduction to vocational learning. The qualifications give our students the opportunity to build skills that show ability for further learning, both in the sector and more widely.
The Health and Social care department will nurture every student through their journey to develop their resilience, expression, and independence, growing into well-rounded individuals to succeed in today’s diverse society. Complimenting other subjects’ and the wider school, students will experience and study a vast range of Health and Social Care topic areas requiring them to demonstrate maturity and respect for others, coupled with high expectations means students will aspire to excellence. Students will become confident and fully prepared to manage their emotions for the many challenges and opportunities they face for their health and well-being, preparing them for life and inspiring them to work in Modern Britain.
Learners develop skills such as the ability to learn independently, analytical skills, self-management, adaptability and resilience, communicating and working collaboratively. All learners should be able to display behaviour such as good attendance, punctuality and respect for other members of the group.
It is a Tech award which means it will focus on developing sector specific knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment. There is no limit to progression options as the skills acquired are applicable to a range of post-16 study options.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about both health care and social care services, jobs and the behaviour’s professionals should use, when dealing with people.
They will delve into the changes that happen during a lifetime, such as physical growth or puberty, learning about ‘people’ of all ages.
Students will gain an understand about the impact of life events, such as starting school or divorce, too.
They will learn skills, such as the interpreting data to assess an individual’s health and designing a plan to improve their health and wellbeing.
The application of care values is essential in this sector as it underpins attitudes to working with others and in general society creating well rounded individuals.
