Alde Valley Academy has developed a range of partnerships with local and national organisations and employers, offering students aspirational activities which include trips and visits, as well as careers advice and guidance.
As part of the careers programme the academy has developed a range of partnerships with local and national organisations and local employers, offering students aspirational activities which include trips and visits, as well as careers advice and guidance. These partners include:
EDF Energy, who are working with students across all year groups, and in particular supporting curriculum learning in a variety of subjects. EDF Energy have also supported with mock interview and CV writing workshops. Having the Sizewell B Visitor Centre on our doorstep means we are lucky enough to be able to use this facility. Their interactive equipment and knowledgeable staff are a valuable asset.
Hotel Folk work with students in Years 10 and 11 to enrich their curriculum, offering work experience placements, demonstrations, advice, training and guidance. This gives an exciting new, dynamic element to Food and Nutrition.
As part of the Kingfisher Schools Trust we also have a direct link to Sir John Leman 6th form who offer free transport for Alde Valley students. We have also developed close links with Post 16 Provisions. They provide students of Alde Valley Academy an opportunity to access specialised courses.
We have developed close links with Suffolk New College on the Coast, which is now based on the site of Alde Valley Academy and offer vocational courses for post-16 students across the local and wider community. This provides the students of Alde Valley Academy the unique opportunity to access specialised courses.
In addition, we actively encourage work-based learning throughout our students’ school life; most notably in our Year 10 work placement scheme. All students have the opportunity to apply for a placement with local businesses to give them a chance to experience the world of work and to develop skills crucial to successful employment such as teamwork, communication and time-keeping.
Independent careers advice and guidance is available across all year groups, with every student being given one to one support by the time they leave at the end of Year 11. We host an extensive Career Evening in November involving key local employers, colleges, universities, sixth forms and the Uniformed Services.
If you are an employer and would like to get involved with the Careers provision at Alde Valley, please refer to our Access policy on the school website and contact Mr Jamie Smith j.smith@aldevalley.suffolk.sch.uk
